Instructions for Exporting Your Course

Option 1
View the video tutorial at the Blackboard Tutorial site.
Option 2
Follow these instructions:
  • Login to Blackboard
  • Enter the course site of the course you wish to copy
  • Scroll down to the menu on the left
  • Select the arrow for Packages and Utilities – this will allow you to see the option for this area
  • Click the Export/Archive course link
  • Now you can choose whether you wish to Export or Archive your course. For our purposes, you will select Export. Exports let you choose which sections of the course you want to back-up and do not contain any student data. Exports will not include student grades, test results or assignment files. You may also wish to archive your course, so you will have a copy of all student materials as well.
  • Next, choose the sections of the course to include in the export.
  • Under Section 2, Course Files, leave the settings as is to avoid negative results.
  • Under Section 3, Select Course Materials, click the checkbox to the left of all course sections you wish to include in the export file.
  • Once you have made your selections, scroll to the bottom and click Submit.
  • Once you return to the Export/Archive Course page, you will see a green success box. The box indicates the action has been queued, and an email will be sent when the process is complete. Please note: Export and archive files are not created immediately.
  • When Blackboard has completed the process of compiling the export or archive file, you will receive an email similar to the one listed below: To: Faculty Member Export: BB91TESTCOURSE The operation has completed. The file may be downloaded from the Control Panel. The results of the process are shown below. Status: The operation export has completed.

  • Return to your course site to continue with this download.
  • From your course home page, navigate back to the Export/Archive Course page.
  • Your export or archive file should be visible. Click the file to begin the download process.
  • When the File Download prompt box appears, click Save.
  • When the Save As window is visible, navigate to the desired location on your computer and click Save.
  • When the download is complete click the Close button.

  • Send the back-up copy of your course materials to the Office of Distance Learning, GCC 104.
  • You will be able to save the file to your computer. This is the file you will upload using the form above. (NOTE: The maximum file upload size for this form is 256 MB. If your course is larger than that, you will need to follow the previous procedure of burning it to a CD.)
